Since Frank will be leading a trip to Rowher Flats to view the Perseid Meteor Shower for the LA Area members, I thought it would be fun to do the same thing in Orange County the same night. The plan is to depart off Ortega Hwy around 6:30 pm to make the 1.5 hour drive up to the top of Santiago Peak. The trail is suitable for all stock Rovers, although offroad tires are recommended due to a few broken rocky areas along the way.

I'm trying to post on the calendar, but I can't get the system to accept the location. Perhaps Brad can assist.

Let me know if you are interested....

Jim

We had an awesome trip up to Santiago Peak to watch the meteor show last night. We started the trail with 17 vehicles, several of which were guests of LRMV, including two new Evoques and a RR Sport 2011. Unfortunately the sport had some tire issues on the trip including plugs in a sidewall and a second tire that shredded itself.

We ultimately had three tire issues plus we rescued a lost family who mistakenly followed us to the summit in their Chevy Travers crossover. They were lost, but made it to the summit where we gave them some fuel and directions to get home.

Once we reached summit it was almost 10:00 and we set up to watch.

The meteor show wasn't too busy, until around 11:00 we saw an incredible fireball streak along the Southwest Horizon, which was the highlite of the evening. It happened so fast so no pics. But the views were spectacular.

Finally, my head hit the pillow at 4 am after a slow ride down the mountain. It was good to see some old friends such as Gerry Berrigan, Darrin Simmons, Dave Straeder, and Adam Spiker among others.
