I'm planning another Death Valley Geology Tour for May 3-5, 2013 (Friday through Sunday), to be curated by U.S. Senior Geologist Allan Shareghi.

I'm trying to gauge interest in this family-friendly trip.
Please post in this thread if you'll attend.

If you haven't seen any of the videos of my previous trips, please check out this link.

A HUGE thanks to John and Yoko Shumovich for always doing a phenomenal job documenting these trips.
Check out some of their other YouTube videos as well.

I have gotten a group rate at the Furnace Creek Ranch of $155 night, IF we get at least 10 rooms booked. More details to follow. DON'T BOOK YOUR ROOM JUST YET, because...

I may also decide to camp one night, perhaps Friday night, and stay at the Ranch on Saturday night. This way we can dip in the pool, get a good shower, sleep in a real bed, and have a nice dinner at the Wrangler Steakhouse.

I have not yet decided on my itinerary, and may include some ground not covered in previous trips.
Part of my itinerary decision-making depends on who attends, so please let me know your intentions.

Lunch will be on the trail each day. Bring plenty of sunscreen, hats, bathing suits, FRS radios, batteries, chargers, WATER, memory cards for cameras, and an appetite for adventure.

If you don't know already, I typically put in full days. It's not my intention, but stuff happens out on the trail beyond my control causing the days to run longer than I want.

Gas in Furnace Creek is around $6.00/gal. OUCH!!! [Bring paperwork for a second mortgage ;-)]

There is also a $20 National Park Fee that needs to be paid at the Visitor Center.

I look forward to seeing you all there- it's going to be another great trip.

Happy Trails.

Sounds great! I can't think of any area of Death Valley (new or seen before) that we wouldn't want to see (again). I keep trying to think of my favorite spots, but then it's all of them...

Camping one night sounds good to me since the weather should be fine that time of year and I need to amortize the cost of the Oz tent...

Glad you like the videos/pictures. I now have two remote control gopro's and I'm working on that arial shot you've always talked about.. Don't be suprised if there's a small helicopter on my roof rack...

I love you Frank. :silly: I was starting to lose hope, but you and Allan came through at the last minute! I look forward to it, I'll just follow you guys in awe of our surroundings as always, I don't care where you take us... Wherever it is, I am sure we'll love it, and we'll be late getting there.

See you soon. New trip requirement: Hats (to hide bald spots if John goes ahead and brings a drone for exciting flyover shots.)

Gas!

I'm pretty sure I'm going to include Titus Canyon and Rhyolite in this trip.
Good thing, too.
Gas in Beatty, Nevada (about 4 miles from our Rhyolite stop) is $4.09/gal for Premium/Diesel!
Compare that to $5.96/gal for Premium at the Chevron in Furnace Creek.

I'll plan to stop in Beatty as part of our trip.

See you soon.
