Section 1 - I'm already going on & Leading a Trip to Frasier Mtn. Trail / Camp Scheideck on Sept. 25th

- Meeting @ the Flying J Trk. Stop, Off Interstate 5 @ between 8:00 A.M. to 9:30 A.M.
There's approx. 5 to 10 vehicle's already going from the A.V. 4 wheeler's.
We're arriving @ between 8:00 A.M. to 8:30 A.M. for Breakfast @ the Buffet Breakfast @ the Flying J Restaurant.
Going north on Interstate 5 past out of Valencia / Castaic. Once you pass thru the Township of gorman, approx. 3+ mile's after, you'll be exiting @ the Frasier Mtn. Offramp.
Going left under Interstate 5, To the 4 way stop. The Flying J will be on the southwest corner to your left.
After Breakfast, Fuel top off & a brief Driver's meeting.
Discussing The Trail, and any and all Other Pertinent Info.
Will be departing @ 9:30 A.M. For the approx. 15 to 20 min. drive, going West thru the Towns of Frasier Park & Lake Of The Wood's.
At this point will be turning left & going southwest Lockwood Valley Rd. Thru the Lockwood Valley.
Approx. 5 mile's down, will leave the pavement, Regroup & Air down for those that want to.
And start the Easy / Moderate (Old Mining Trail).
Will be In an Area, With lot's of Old Tree's & Heavy Brush, As this area Isn't one of the Recent Burn Area's at last check anyways.
There are some old mine's in the area.
There will bill some moderate / easy up hill climb's. As well as some moderate down hill descent's.

I generally travel this Trail at least once a year.
Sometimes more, this Trail is always In good shape, not off camber, trails well maintained & It take's approx. 2+ to 3 hour's depending on Group size to complete.

Will come out, where the Lockwood Creek 4x4 trail Staging area Is. This completes the 1st and only 4 wheeling section of the day.

* At this point, with the (Offroad Rovering Complete) those that came just to Offroad can go right at the pavement & head back to Frasier Park & Interstate 5, Get Lunch & head back Home.

Section 2 - Camp Scheideck
(100+ Year Old Town) approx. 15+ to 20 mile's further down Lockwood valley Rd. / Lockwood valley (All Pavement).

Once there the Old Saloon, Now Serve's Food, Non Alcoholic Drink's & Beer.
I point this out, As those that want to go, will know there entire family should really enjoy this Part.
The Old Chapel, Where Couple's still get married, to this day.
Other numerous still standing Original out bldg's.
We'll be eating lunch @ the Town.
It takes approx. a 1/2 hour to get there, and will be there approx. 1 hour Before we all Pack up and head backup Lockwood Valley Rd. then Frasier Park & Interstate 5, Refuel & all head for home.

I personally enjoy this trail / side trip a lot and hope some of you can also participate. I realize It's short notice. This also makes a good Snow Run with approx. 6" of Fresh untraveled snow.

Equip. Needed:
Sufficient Water & Snack's for all Occupant's,
Can be cool or somewhat warm (clothing should be able to go either way)
thundershowers are possible,
firstaide kit,
plenty of fuel and basic tool's,
shovel, axe, Vehicle jack, Spare Tire and tow strap etc...
- FRS channel will most likely be 7 & CB channel will be 14.
Not anticipating any serious vehicle issue's.
So each participant should bring what other equip. they fill necessary.

Thanks!

Trip Report: One other Member Nick and his Grandaughter & Myself,
Met Sat. afternoon @ Hwy 138 & Hwy 14. Drove to Gorman, Stopped at Mcdonald's.

Then drove to Hungry Valley and setup Camp at the Edison Campground Inside the O.H.V. Park.
I took enough firewood to have a descent fire, For approx. 4 hour's, The stars were awesome, We had a great time.

Broke camp at sunrise and headed for the Flying J, Hot Coffee & Breakfast.
One Member Don & a guest & his son, Were already there, Walking Don's two Labrador's. They pulled In about 5 min's earlier. Two other member's Mark Price & Jeff & Lisa & 1 other guest pulled In after.

We all went Into The Restaraunt (Which is now a Denny's). Had breakfast, At 9:15 we had a brief Driver's meeting. With all Tank's topped off, We then departed at 9:30. Going west thru Frasier Park & Lake Of The Wood's.
Heading southwest thru the Lockwood Valley. To the Chachapute Ranger Station, Which was closed. Hit the Trailhead 5 minute's later.
Beautiful weather, The 7 vehicle's had no major problem's or breakdowns throughout the Run. We did however, have one vehicle get high centered on a Dirt obstacle, In the middle of the trail, So jeff got the chance to use his new Winch.
We ran Into 3 Members of the Frasier Park 4x4 club on the Trail numerous times.

At 12:00 we exit Frasier Mtn. Trail, At the point were the trail and staging area for the Lockwood Creek trail begin's.
At this point the 3 Jeep's, 1 Jeep Commando, 1 Chevy Fullsize P/U, 1 Nissan P/U and of course 1 Very Fine L.R.D2 SE7. Headed back to the pavement, To take the approx 30+ min. drive down the valley to Camp Scheidneck (The 100+ year old Town).

Took in the sights, Had lunch and at 2:00 we were headed backup the Lockwood Valley to the Flying J and regroup and head for home.

Thank's! Scott
