I am playing with the idea of leading a multi day trip to the Coyote Flats area south west of Bishop, CA. The initial plan would be to leave early on Saturday morning June 30th, and try to make it up to Bishop area by noon. This would give enough time to make the trail up to Coyote Flats area, which is 20 miles of offroad, climbing to about 10,000 feet where we would set up primitive camp, hopefully near the Baker Creek area which has fly fishing. Then over the next two days (Sunday and Monday) would tour around the trails nearby and lakes to fish, plus explore other areas including somewhat north into the Buttermilk area. I haven't decided whether to keep a fixed camp or set up camp each night wherever it takes us.
Return would be on Tuesday the 3rd, or Wednesday (July 4th) depending on what people want.
I have never explored that area, and from what I have read, it is beautiful meadows, and a moderately rough trail up to the area. I guess the ATV's tear up the trail a bit, as it is a local favorite for weekends.
Let me know if you are interested, and I will continue to try and pull some more details together. This is a video I found from last year up there.

My family and I will be coming down 395 from a trip up to the area around lassen national park in that time frame. We are going to stop and spend a couple of days with my dad who lives on the west side of yosemite but after that we'll have a couple of days between then and the holiday.
I was actually looking at that area to camp in on our way back down. If it was just us it would be too long of a haul but if we were meeting up with a group there and staying a few days it would be fine. I had read on some trip reports that there are some good primitive sites up near funnel lake. Anyhow, I'd be along on Sunday and likely be wanting to leave to head back down south on Tuesday so we could rest on the fourth before heading back to work. Also, my .02 would be to keep a fixed camp. My other half isn't fond of breaking down camp just to set it up again not too far away. I'm trying to justify an oz-tent RV5 since it so quick to set up but with the price tag its a tough sell
I'll keep an eye out here, definitely interested in joining up a day late.

I am also considering changing the dates to July 5th through the 8th, if that is an easier date for people. That was someone could come up Friday and meet up and make it a 3 day weekend trip instead. Let me know if those dates are better to work with...
