Hey we are having an "Elderly Rover Run" on June 3rd. Land Rovers of all ages are invited but we would especially like to see some of the older trucks out there.

Currently it is scheduled to start at 11:00 am at Rowher Flat OHV area. I haven't been to this area yet and just randomly chose it for the location of the event. We can change locations if needed. Does anyone know anything about this area? Are there a couple decent moderate trails or obstacles in the area? Is there anything cool or worth checking out there at all?

I'll see if I can track down a few prizes and maybe hold a small raffle. Prizes will be awarded to those with the least/most rust, highest mileage, fewest fluid leaks...

For all of you with older vehicles get them up and running, it would be great to see you out there.

Sounds like fun. Not sure if my Landy will be up by then, but I'm trying! If the location is final I'd probably have to trailer her out. I can only get about 52mph out of her. ;)

Mine says classic on the back. Does that make it elderly enough?

I have been on Rowher Flats Trail with SCLR a couple of times now, along with Frank B for his "annual" Perseids Meteor Shower's night run. It's a fun trail, mostly sandy and a bit rocky in places, with a few steep and off camber sections but definitely doable by any stock Land Rover, even on street tires as long as you pay attention of where you place your wheels (Frank had a small mishap there last year on the way down, although at night things definitely get a bit more complicated.)

There is a nice plateau at the summit where you can have lunch - that's where we normally stop for the meteor show on the night run - and the whole trail can be completed in 3-4 hours at a very leisurely pace. There are fantastic vies of Bouquet Reservoir, mountains and canyons all around during the ascent from Bouquet Canyon. The descent must be beautiful, but it's always been pitch black when I've gone down on that side, so I am not sure. ;) It would be ideal for a day run that's close enough for just about anyone to get to. Not sure if there are offshoots from the main trail on the way back down, I have only followed the leader on the main trail.

In short, I think both the theme and the trail are a great idea Keanan. I am a "youngster" I guess (Range Rover Sport), but I just may join you for that run as well.

Here's a link to a video John Shumovich shot at Rowher Flat a couple of years ago.

Working on keeping it shiny side up!

Yes it is elderly enough. Even relatively new (2000 and newer) Land Rovers are welcome. Even the "Young whipper snappers" can learn a thing or two from their elders. Plus if "Grandpa" needs help getting up the hill someone has to be there to tow him up.
