As posted on the calendar we will be running the 2N17X/Pilot Rock/Willow Creek trails on May 5th. Depending on interest and time we may continue on up Dishpan to Crab Flats campground.

On May 6th I will lead a trip on Holcomb Creek. We will take the Holcomb Creek and Lower Larga trails. As far as I know both of these trails are open. I will verify that information before the trip.

This is not an overnight trip, it is two separate trips back to back and those that want can camp overnight. You can come for one trip or both, it doesn't really matter.

The 2N17X/Pilot Rock/Willow Creek trails are a lot of fun, Hopefully we don't have as much vehicle damage as we had last year. If we have a large turnout we will split into a couple groups and spread out a bit. Maybe that will allow things to go a little bit smoother.

As mentioned if we have time we will continue up Dishpan/Deep Creek to Crab Flats Campground. Dishpan has a couple obstacles that are a bit more technical than the other trails. Most lightly to heavily modified Land Rovers should be able to make it. A stock truck might suffer some bruises and the drivers ego might suffer a couple bruises also when they have to get winched up the hill.

I'm going to try and prerun Dishpan sometime here in the next week or two. Contact me if you want to tag along. My schedule is reasonably flexible so I can do a midweek day if needed.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the trip. I hope to see everyone out there!

According to the San Bernardino National Forest website most all of the campgrounds in the forest are closed. They are negotiating a new contract so I guess they have to close everything. Anyone interested in camping overnight between the two runs is welcome to camp out in the woods provided they follow a few Forest Service rules.

For those that are wanting to camp I imagine we will be able to find a decent place somewhere near Crab Flats Campground.

SBNF Dispersed Camping Information

"Undeveloped or Dispersed Area Camping
Undeveloped or Dispersed areas are designated areas away from highways and development where camping along back roads or trails is permitted. Because of year-around fire danger, wood or charcoal fires are not allowed (includes charcoal in a BBQ). Chemical or propane stoves may be used if you have a free California Campfire Permit, which may be obtained at the local Ranger Station. "Know before you go" and check at the nearest Ranger Station for a map of the Remote Camping Areas and the current fire restrictions.

General Rules for remote camping:
•No wood or charcoal fires
•Chemical and propane stoves allowed with California Campfire Permit
•Camp at least 200 feet from springs, water, meadows, trails and roads
•Camp at least a quarter-mile from designated campgrounds, picnic areas, trailheads
•Camp at least a quarter-mile from private property and state highways
•Pack out all trash
•Leave no trace"

FYI,
I took a drive through Crab Flats campground and Tent Peg yesterday. Crab Flats was open and had several camp sites occupied with campers. Tent Peg which is located down the road from CF was posted as closed but scheduled to re-open tomorrow (May,1st).

I plan on trying to make it out for the Sunday (May,6)run through Holcomb Creek but won't know for sure til Friday. If I can make it, I'll be sure to register on the trip calender.
