Trips coming up this fall 10 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
I have been given the green light to post up some trips I am planning in the near future. It's too soon for details (important things like dates!), but here is the gist of what I am working on:
  • 2N17X - fun little trail, nearby and similar to Cleghorn, but steeper.

  • New Member Orientation Run - Horsethief Flats to Rose Mine to Heartbreak Ridge area (Big Bear). Might include an extra credit run to Onyx Peak

  • Nightmare Gulch - now open! (second half of each month)

  • Trail Leader Training - primarily a sit and talk session, discussions and hand-outs about trip planning and prep, trip documentation examples, trail leader check lists, SCLR policies, Trail leader techniques, communications (verbal, written, radio and spotting!), responsibilities on the trail, and essential lessons learned.

These events will probably be my last official event affiliated with this club for the foreseeable future (now that I am Roverless). I have learned much via SCLR and am very grateful for it. This is my chance to give back to the club what I can.

If any of you have any interest in one or more of these trips, post your interest here so that I can fine tune the trips and dates, and itineraries.

Update: We accomplished the 2N17X Trail the other day, Lou and Scott and I had a good time. Attendance was low due to short notice, but we are getting into the busy fall season and things have been challenging to fit into the schedule.

The SCLR Board has agreed to have two formal calendar events for the following activities:

Sunday, 11/1/09, New Member Orientation/Historic Eastern San Bernardino Mtns

Trip sheet is here. This is also known as the Horsethief Flats trail run.

Sunday, 11/8/09: Trail Leader Training. This will be held in my backyard, in Yorba Linda. We will have a BBQ! This is as a "classroom" based event. Its open to everyone, but specifically targeted to members looking to learn more about leading trips, but novice and seasoned veterans.

I will also be making a few runs to Nightmare Gulch/Last Chance canyon area later on, but these are not SCLR specific runs. I may post up invitations here, but they are informal Tag-a-longs only.
