A special thanks to Garmin!!!

My LR3 is now sponsored by Garmin/Kenwood. I have a custom 7" screen mounted flush in the dash, with the software to allow for me to map trails as we go then make available the route via a downloadable file. I will be working out the bugs with Garmin over the next few months.

In the future you will be able to download a Garmin file from the trip sheet of our trail runs and upload into your own Garmin handheld, laptop driven or a Kenwood DVD-NAV stereo.

Thanks again to Garmin for letting SCLR be the Ginny Pigs.

Will you be able to port them out to GPX and use them universally?

Now, what good would it do for me to try to promote Garmin if it would work with anything?

Actually, to answer your question. I don't know, I won't know until we start working with it.

Easy, one of the things that turned me off of Garmin a few years ago was their proprietary format, proprietary batteries, and proprietary memory cards. The more standards based products they offer, the greater the appeal.

I'm just being a smarta$$, I do believe it will work with others, I am cuurently using it with ArcGIS, and Bentley software, and www.cartograph.com will be handeling the maintainence for Google Earth Pro, so I see no reason it won't work with Google Earth (free version) which will soon be the standard for the week-end warrior.

They are more universal now.

All three of the garmins I have use the universal scan disk memory card. With their computer software I can create routes and save them as gpx, upload them into google earth and google maps. Also I can upload gpx files to them.

With my Rhino and my nuvi 500 I can record and save tracks to view in google earth as well as with my laptop if I have it plugged into my rhino and it will track on screen.
