Geocaching is something that appeals to most kids...the adventure of the search and the excitement of opening the cache. There are many areas, such as Cleghorn, etc, where this could be done where there are several caches near the roads, and the area has pretty good accessibility for people driving there.

It is likely that most BOD members have seen this post. I assume that we are thinking of how we can make this happen as a club.

Here are a few ideas that may be of interest:

Can you look in to these and see how we can help?

Meanwhile I will dig a bit more to see what else is out there.

Thank Omid.

These are all good but out of scope for the personal impact I was hoping to accomplish. Boys/Girls club is close though. Looking to create an ah-ha moment for some people who haven't had one in a while. Battered women's shelter is still on top of my list so far, taking them and their kid out.

Adam,
GREAT IDEAS...Here are the practical aspects as well as a few ideas...
As far as transporting adults or children in our personal vehicles...Our (SCLR) insurance is rather prohibitive, and so is California Code...you have to have a certified medical transport(modified w lifts, seats, harnesseses, etc.) as well as California Special Certificate to drive a school bus and Possession of a Medical Certificate to drive a school bus or medical transport.

However that is not to say SCLR could not arrange medical transport to a campsite (rental cabins in Big Bear?) and have spend an annual weekend with physically and mentally challenged children . I used to do this via MedCamps of NE La and it is a totally rewarding experience!

Other ideas are we could do "Rovers for Rover" Basically what we would is contact local shelters to volunteer our organization and then when a transportation need (from a shelter to a foster family, forever home or a breed rescue) comes up we would post it on our forum to see if anyone could volunteer to transport the animals (like Pilots for Paws, only for short distances)....

We would LOVE to have some of you volunteer at at our Target Second Sundays (free childrens day with interactive workshop!)@ OCMA...I also like the idea of a "Toy Run" to Choc or another children's hospital or ward...would want to be sure to acertain the # of patients first though to be sure we could provide enough toys(maybe even put bins for donations at local dealers)...one of our local (Long Beach) VW clubs recently did this and also decorated thier vehicles for the run! Also have Chrissy and Marley certified as "therapy animals" for visits like this!

More ideas that come to mind from my past experiences are:
Partner with United Way or similar organization for a "Day at a Zoo", Childrens Museum, etc...We could pick up the tab for certified transportation to a location BUT NOT PROVIDE IT PERSONALLY.
A Day with the Dogs...Volunteer at a local shelter to walk, play and help staff with clean up...Volunteer at a local adoption event...or have an event to raise money for a local shelter...Meals on Wheels and voluteering to help prepare and serve thanksgiving dinners aare also good...
