Just to let everyone know, All dirt trails, no matter how technical they are, are considered Federal Highways with a National Park, Forest and Monuments. This also includes States Parks and County Roads. (Basically 99.9% of the places we do trail runs)

You are allowed to have only 4 front lights (2 headlights and 2 fog lights) with none above the hood of your vehicle.

Apparently the "off-road" police didn't like me running 7 lights in Joshua Tree this week-end. I was able to talk my way out of the ticket, but with the lack of funds in the state, they are cracking down.

Also front license plates are being ticketed for $117 now, they used to turn their head and ignore the front plate but no longer....the State needs money so they are aiming at us to provide it with higher fines.

This also includes the factory "off-road" lights from Land Rover, even if you bought them and had them installed when you got your Land Rover, you need to be careful when using them.

Would take that one to court with the actual code in hand... Yes a pain to go to court and better to talk your way out of it...

Reality is federal highways and roads are built with standard amount of lighting provided by engineering by road surface and amount of traffic. Now where you have dirt roads and poor lighting conditions and speed limits of 15mph or below lighting starts to get exemptions.
Trick is the actual law and code they are citing for. In normal road conditions it is unsafe for the approaching vehicle and their vision at hi-way speeds. However on trails this is a different example and the laws do leave some gray area.

Front Plate... yup... that one figures... easy revenue... used to be cheap 25/50 only though...

$117 is pretty darn expensive...

Yep, looked it up as soon as I got to work this morning, that is the written law.

Maybe I need to make some light covers and have "COPS SUCK" screen painted on each one............ Good news is with the air suspension, I can lower the vehicle into "Access" when he tries to measure them......

Actually, I could have had it worse, but he was pretty cool about it, just gave me a warning and wanted them turned off.
