1. Why is my email address so important?
We're glad you asked. The SCLR has grown greatly and is run by volunteers. To keep everyone informed of club activities, we have to rely on email and this web site. Only when it is absolutely necessary do we communicate via US mail, ie. sending your club t-shirts and stickers. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance that we have your current email address.
The #1 best way to do this is through the SCLR Clubhouse, our members-only online portal. Using your member number and password you can log in and maintain your own member information, including your email address. The club's officers use a web-based tool that makes it easy to automatically email everyone through the Clubhouse, so please keep your email address current to get the most out of your membership. 2. How do I RSVP for trips?
To RSVP, look for the word "RSVP" underneath the date of the trip, even if it says TBA. If you are not yet logged into the Clubhouse, you will be prompted to do so. When you complete and save the resulting RSVP form, it is then stored in your RSVP Manager. Here you can edit your RSVP, or delete it should you need to cancel.
Trips that involve a deposit or payment (ie. rafting, guided trips, Rover Rendezvous), each have a different RSVP method. Trips that are organized by outside groups (ie. CORVA, Cal4Wheel), have their own RSVP and/or registration process, so we simply link to their web site. [Back to Top]
3. Why do I have to log into both the Clubhouse and Roverboard separately, and why does one stay logged in and the other does not?
The Clubhouse and the Roverboard are two separate applications. The Clubhouse was custom written for SCLR, but the Roverboard is licensed forum software. When we first added your account in each application, we synchronized your passwords for your convenience. However, if you wish to change your password but keep them both synchronized, you'll need to do it in both the Clubhouse and the Roverboard. Each has a link that allows you to update your own information.
In most cases, the Roverboard will stay logged in on a computer until manually logged out, even if you close or quit your browser, or shut down your computer. This makes it easy to regularly participate in ongoing forum discussions. The Clubhouse, however, logs you out each time you close or quit your browser.
For more information about the Clubhouse and how it works, see our Member Area Info page. [Back to Top]
4. I forgot my password. How do I retrieve it?
Click here to retrieve your password. The password retrieve program requires you to provide the same email address that is in your Clubhouse member information. It checks for a match before sending your password to you in an email. If you forgot your password and your email address has changed, click here to email the Webmaster for help. [Back to Top]
5. When are trip sheets available?
Trip sheets are written by the trip leader. For local trips, they usually appear about 60 days before the run; for out of state trips, about 90 days prior. Usually you'll find announcements on the Roverboard when they are made available. [Back to Top]
6. When are membership dues payable?
Membership dues are payable on January 1st of each year. Dues are good for the calendar year, therefore, the earlier in the year that you first join, the more you will get out of your first year of membership. However, new members who join at the end of the year (after October 1st) receive the next year's membership free.
Current members must renew each year by April 1st of each year. Those who do not will no longer receive our periodic email updates, will loose access to the Clubhouse and Roverboard, and can no longer attend club trips. [Back to Top]
7. How often do you process memberships?
Membership applications and renewal requests are processed twice monthly. Therefore, it may be up to two weeks before new members receive official confirmation of their membership. Renewing members will simply notice that the "RENEW" reminder no longer appears when logging into the Clubhouse.
After their membership is processed, new members will receive an email with their member number and password, which are required to log into both the Clubhouse and the Roverboard. Both new and renewing members will receive in the mail a club t-shirt and sticker. [Back to Top]
8. I'm thinking of joining the SCLR; can I attend a trip to see what it is like?
Yes, prospective members are allowed to attend one SCLR trip to learn more about us in person. For more information, see our Nonmember Trip Participation Policy. [Back to Top]
9. I don't have a Land Rover but would like to come on an SCLR trip. May I?
Members are encouraged to bring their Land Rover on club trips, however, the trip leader may allow a suitable substitute vehicle to be used on occasion. For more information, please see our Nonmember Trip Participation Policy. [Back to Top]
10. Where and how often are club trips?
It is the club's goal to offer at least one trip each month, sometimes more. To see a list of past club trips, their trips sheets and links to some trip photos, visit the Recent Trips page.
Most trips last a weekend in duration, but we try to schedule a few one-day trips as well. We also try to offer one or two longer, expedition style trips, usually out-of-state. [Back to Top]
11. When and where are SCLR meetings?
The SCLR has one formal club meeting, and that is the Annual Meeting, which is usually held in December or January of each year. The date, time and location is announced on the Calendar about 60 days prior. Occasionally, the club may schedule mixers and vendor open houses, but almost all of our activities take place on the trail during our regular club trips. [Back to Top]
12. Is there a charge to go on trips?
Generally, no. The overwhelming majority of our trips are simply at your own expense. There are occasionally fee trips, and examples of these are: fee events by other 4x4 groups, ie. CORVA & Cal4Wheel; the Rover Rendezvous, which is open to nonmembers; activity-based trips, ie. river rafting; and professionally guided trips, usually associated with the out-of-state expeditions. [Back to Top]
13. Where do we stay on overnight trips?
Some overnight trips are camping trips, and for some we recommend motels. Sometimes we are fortunate to have the choice of both! You'll find the trip leader's recommendations for overnight accommodations in the trip sheet. [Back to Top]
14. Can I invite others on SCLR trips?
You are free to invite guest as your passengers. However, the participation of nonmembers in their own vehicles is strictly up to the discretion of the trip leader and is subject to our Nonmember Trip Participation Policy. [Back to Top]
15. I am a trip leader. How do I view RSVP's for my trip?
You can do so by logging into the Clubhouse. If yours is the next trip on the Calendar, under the Calendar Info area of your Clubhouse page there will be a link just for you that reads "View RSVP's for this Event!"
However, if your trip is not the next one on the Calendar, you will need to RSVP for your own trip, then you can click on the "Manage Your RSVP's" link in the RSVP Info area of your Clubhouse page. Within the resulting list of your RSVP's your trips are indicated by the "Trip Leader" flag and a link to "View RSVP's for this Event." [Back to Top]
16. I have a Rover related item for sale; can I email you information about it?
Actually, we prefer that you visit our "Wanted or For Sale" message board and post it yourself. It is free and open to the public with no registration required. Click here to go there, or select Roverboard from the menu on the left side of any page. [Back to Top]
17. What is SCLR's Policy on the use of Alcohol?
SCLR observes all State and local laws effective in the areas we hold events. Our formal policy is available here: SCLR Alcohol Policy (23kb PDF). [Back to Top]
18. Who's in charge around here?
YOU are! We are recognized by both the State and Federal Government as a non-profit organization. At each Annual Meeting, members themselves elect officers and directors from among the membership, and any dues paying member is eligible to volunteer and run for office.
The club's governing body is its thirteen-member Board of Directors. Eight are elected as Director-at-Large, while the other four are the elected President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. The Past President becomes Chairman and the thirteenth member. To see who is currently on the Board of Directors, visit our About Us page. [Back to Top]
19. Who do I contact with praise, problems or suggestions?
Please send your comments to the Webmaster at: webmaster@sclr.org. The Webmaster will either reply directly or forward your message appropriately. For the club's current mailing address, visit our About Us page. [Back to Top]
