Special Notes

Any stock Rover (except Freelander) can get through, but will need offroad tires -- street tires won't make it. No air dams, no side steps. Rock sliders and diff guards recommended, just in case, but it can be driven without hitting anything. Be prepared to get pinstripes from the willows and brush in riparian zones in the canyons.

Meet at Panamint Springs. For those of you new to the club, Panamint Springs Resort is, well, rustic, but enormously hospitable, and well known for their great food. AND they are SMALL -- we've reserved practically the whole place for ourselves, except for three unwitting and unfortunate parties who also picked that weekend for their stay.

IF YOU WANT A ROOM AT PANAMINT SPRINGS RESORT for Friday and Saturday evenings, YOU MUST EMAIL TINA at: TrekOutfitters@aol.com Tina is handling all room assignments and will be striving to pack as many in as she can. Otherwise, there are plenty campsites and the evening temperatures should be perfect for camping.

Panamint Springs is prepared to provide for our every need: rooms and campsites, food and grog, especially grog. They have gas, albeit expensive gas, ice (when machine is working), breakfasts and dinners, and will even pack you a sack lunch, if you let them know the night before. Their bar and veranda is great fun after dinner.

They also have a great campground, if you prefer that to a room.

Saturday and Sunday, October 4-5, 2003
We haven't finalized an itinerary yet, as conditions have changed recently and may need to be scouted. Randy Banis (#167) will be leading the runs. We'll likely be venturing up one of the Panamint's scenic canyons to the crest of the range, potentially above the 8,000 foot level. It could be hot and sunny, and in the 90's up there, or it could be snowing and in the 20's, as October is a transition month from fall to winter.

Pack and prepare for desert conditions, meaning plenty of water. Make sure your Rover is ready to go -- check fluids and such. We'll be a LONG way from anywhere! It doesn't get much more remote.

REMEMBER, if you want a room, you must email Tina ASAP at: TrekOutfitters@aol.com
