Special Notes

Last Chance Canyon is a frequent destination for the SCLR because of its close proximity to LA and its wide variety of terrain and scenic views. In 1995 management authority for this special area was transferred from the BLM to neighboring Red Rock Canyon State Park. Until now, roads and trails in the Last Chance Canyon area were by and large left open to 4x4's and OHV's. However, by the end of this year, nearly ALL routes in the Last Chance Canyon area will be closed to all vehicles, including some of its more remote and challenging trails.

On this one day trip we'll tackle these tougher trails one last time -- in fact, some have NEVER been travelled by the SCLR. These trails present higher than usual dangers to you and your vehicle and person due to slipery surfaces, off-camber sections, narrow squeezes, and drop-offs. Dispite these dangers, these trails are not "hardcore" -- so don't laugh at me if they are not challenging enough -- and can be traveled by stock Rovers with appropriate clearance modifications, such as: good offroad tires, rock sliders, no plastic air dams or bumpers, and diff guards. We will be including routes that are only rarely driven, so expect a healthy amount of desert pinstriping from creosote and other branches. Long wheelbase Range Rovers may be challenged by abrupt angles of approach and departure.

This trip will not be appropriate for beginners, as drivers will be expected to conquer obsticles with little or no spotting.

If you've never been to this area, now may be your last chance. If you've frequented Last Chance Canyon, this is a great time of year to make your last tour of the area. Again, will be taking some trails that have never been driven by the club -- and likely never will again.

The trip leader will be monitoring channel 4 on FRS radios.
