SCLR June 2002 One or Two Day Trip
Los Coyotes, Warner Springs, CA
Date of Event
Saturday and/or, Sunday June 22-23rd
Accommodations in Warner Springs
Being as some of you are possibly coming a fair distance there is the
Warner Springs Ranch if you need a place for Friday and perhaps Saturday night if the camping is looking too primitive.
Meeting Place
Warner Springs Gas Station -- 33'17.02N by 116'38.07W Saturday morning 7:00-7:30 AM. This will be a full day in understanding why Los Coyotes makes the Rubicon look like a drive to the grocery store, just kidding!
Location

If you are coming from Temecula there is a gas station or two on the 79 about mid way and past Aguanga at one of the passes on this road way. However, being as it is quite early they may be shut. My best recommendation is to fill up at Temecula at the 79-exit area near the freeway. Warner Springs, CA has a gas station, were we will meet, but it was closed down the last time I made visual contact with it several years ago. I will via the RoverBoard post any updates after I pre-run the approach from Temecula that will be in the next several weeks.

If you are late and miss us get to the 79 where you will turn east on Camino San Ignacio. After turning off, you stay on the road with the yellow divider until you come to the Indian Reservation Entrance Shack -- 33'15.34n by 116'34.65w
Special Requirements
Itinerary
It will take us as an organized caravan15 to 20 minutes to get to the reservation check in shack, which opens at 8:00 AM, from the Gas Station, get paid (6 or more rigs we get a club rate of $10/vehicle/day instead of $15/vehicle/day) and enter the reservation. If you are camping it is overnight and $20/vehicle/night but if six or more go for it, it is $15/vehicle/night.
Upon braking away from the shack we will proceed to Four Corners -- 33'18.93n by 116'33.33w and attempt the Manzanita Loop in a clockwise direction based on the map shown above in this trip sheet. This is however, tentative based on what the pre-run defines as a good loop to scale as well as the response to the RSVP instructions. If all goes well and we donユt become Coyote Fodder out on the trail we are apt to camp back at the Campsite -- 33'16.68n by 116'32.89w area for those so desiring to make for a Saturday night stay and more fun on Sunday.
Primitive camping is the name of the game although they do have bathrooms with questionable showers but they are usually locked up. Therefore, it is recommended you equip yourself with all the needed gear to make your stay comfortable. We are up in elevation in proximity to the highest point in San Diego County so the night might be quite cool.

Please answer the questions below. If this looks like more work than its worth just let me know your coming. However, if you are concerned about damage then I need to now what youve got as Los Coyotes has some of the most challenging trails you can find in San Diego County or the state for that matter.
The RSVPs will determine the best fit for the capabilities we look to fill in doing a run that will be enjoyable yet somewhat of an adventure as well. The more information you provide the better I will be able to deliver a level of challenge that compliments the driver skill and vehicle capability in the mix.
