Vehicle & Driver Requirements

The trails we will drive in the afternoon will be appropriate for any stock Land Rover, and for any beginner driver that is enthusiastic about learning to drive off road.

Special Notes

This event is intended to help new members better enjoy their membership in the SCLR. Whereas nearly all SCLR trips make for great family outings, the first half of this event is unusual in that it will consist of "classroom" time. Therefore, I recommend that this orientation be attended only by the primary driver(s) for the family.

Also, please bring a folding chair.

Lastly, please arrive with at least 3/4 of a tank of fuel. This is no trouble if you fill up at either Mojave (if coming via Hwy 14) or Johannesburg (if coming via Hwy 395).

Itinerary

The Orientation will begin with a presentation and discussion about the SCLR, our trips, outfitting your Land Rover, and driving tips.

We'll adjourn the morning session for lunch at the Jawbone Store, or feel free to bring your own sack lunch. They have a grill featuring tri-tip sandwiches, hamburgers and hotdogs. Following lunch, we'll caravan to nearby 4x4 trails and enjoy the next couple of hours offroad. We hope to break at about 4:00 pm, and I recommend your having dinner along the way home.
