Trip Overview and Goals:
The New Member run is an opportunity to meet others in the Club, learn the basics of offroad
preparedness, and enjoy the scenic outdoors. This trip will be family friendly, and
members are encouraged to bring their kids, nieces, nephews, friends, etc… along for the
adventure.
Our rendezvous point will be the Big Bear Discovery Center at 9:30 am.

Directions:
From LA/OC: Take the 91 East (or the 55 North to the 91 East), to the 215 North, to
Interstate 10 East, to the 210 freeway North, to Highway 330 East, to Running Springs. At
Running Springs, the route becomes Highway 18, proceed East to the Big Bear Lake Dam.
At the yield sign, proceed straight, through Fawnskin, to the entrance of the Big Bear
Discovery Center.

NOTE: You will want to gas up in Running Springs on the way up. If you don’t, you can gas
up in Big Bear, but allow 20 minutes extra time to get there and back (beyond the
Discovery Center).
Vehicle requirements & Trip Difficulty level:
Easy. All you need is a pinch of courage, decent tires, and good clearance typical of all Land
Rovers. This trip is about exploring the history eastern San Bernardino Mountains with
mild off road driving challenges.
What to bring:
- WATER!!! Bring at least one gallon per person at a minimum.
- A FULL tank of gas. Running Springs is the closest gas enroute. Or Big Bear, but allow an extra 20 minutes to fuel up in town before the meeting rendezvous time.
- Full size spare tire
- Warm clothes or jacket. We will be up at altitude and weather is unpredictable.
- Hats and sunscreen
- FRS and/or CB Radio. You will definitely want a radio for this trip.
- Cameras! This place is photogenic, everyone needs lots of pictures!
