The Southern California Land Rover Club and
the Land Rover Club of Las Vegas Present:
5th Annual Rover Rendezvous

Dates of Event

April 1-3, 2005

Introduction

This year's Rover Rendezvous features a change in venue and season. Although the previous four events have been held during the summer in the mountain forests of Big Bear, fire damage and fire threats have led organizers to seek a new venue while the forest heals. Moving the event to the desert presented several challenges, so we picked a milder season and enlisted the help of Panamint Springs Resort in meeting participants' needs. Holding the event on such remote private property did result in higher basic costs to participants, but most expenses remain optional.

Location

Panamint Springs Resort, Panamint Springs, California, Death Valley National Park

Panamint Springs Resort will be hosting this year's Rover Rendezvous. The resort is on private property located inside the western boundary of Death Valley National Park. The site features shaded campsites with flush toilets and showers and plenty of room for RV's and trailer tents. The small resort has fifteen rooms, all of which have been set aside for our event, and a terrific restaurant and full bar. For more information see their web site at:

Note to SCLR Members: Please do not RSVP via the Clubhouse -- you must use the special registration form above. Your RSVP will not appear in the Clubhouse.

Special Notes

A. EVENT OPEN ONLY TO MEMBERS OF THE FOLLOWING LAND ROVER CLUBS:

B. This is a fee event. Each vehicle will be required to pay a Registration Fee of $25.00 ($40.00 after February 28) that includes one free event tshirt. Optional fees apply to campsites, meals, additional event tshirts, and raffle tickets. One trail requires a separate $10.00 fee for a Death Valley National Park visitor pass. Panamint Springs Resort separately offers motel rooms, meals through their restaurant, bar service, gasoline and sundry items at their own posted rates.

C. This event is limited to 100 vehicles. Make certain to RSVP early to secure your place! Also, if you pre-register by February 28th you'll receive your tshirt(s), meal tickets and raffle tickets by mail in advance so you won't have to wait through a long check-in at the event!

D. Pre-registration ends on February 28. After that, prices increase, and availability becomes uncertain. If you do not RSVP in advance and just show up, we regret that we can only accommodate you if we have not reach our 100 vehicle limit. It will be disappointing to drive all that way and not be allowed to participate, so be sure to RSVP as early as possible!

Campsites, RV Sites, and Rooms

Campsites are available for both Friday and Saturday nights at a cost of $25.00 per campsite, if pre-registered before February 28th. This includes both nights, even if you are only camping for only one night. The cost increases to $30.00 per campsite if your RSVP is received after February 28th. The campground features several shady tent sites, and has flush toilets, showers, picnic tables and firepits.

RV sites feature water and 50 amp electrical hook ups. If you'd like to reserve an RV site, please contact Panamint Springs directly at:
775-482-7680 (please note that their phone service is cellular and sometimes sketchy -- please keep trying if you have trouble calling)

The resort also has fifteen rooms, all of which have been held for our use. To arrange for a room, please call Panamint Springs directly at:
775-482-7680
Because of the remoteness of the resort, rooms are somewhat Spartan. The facility relies on cellular telephone service, generates its own electricity, and pipes its water from a spring several miles away. Don't look for a TV or phone in your room...

Alternative Accommodations

Participants are free to stay at other area motels, or camp freely on surrounding public lands or in local BLM adopt-a-cabins. For additional motels look to Lone Pine (Dow Villa, Alabama Hills Inn), which is one hour west of Panamint Springs, or to Stovepipe Wells Village in DVNP, about one hour east of the resort. Feel free to email me for recommendations at: webmaster@sclr.org

Meals

At previous Rover Rendezvous events, the Saturday night BBQ was the only meal provided through the event. This year, you have many more choices!

First, you can join us for an all-you-can-eat spaghetti feed on Friday night, including salad, rolls and beverage. On both Saturday and Sunday morning, there will be a full breakfast buffet available. Then, as usual, Saturday night will feature BBQ chicken and ribs, side dishes, salad, rolls and a beverage.

To make things convenient we are offering an "All Meals Pass" at a discounted price, or you can purchase meal tickets individually. Kids under 12 eat free with paid adult meals. Be sure to include your meal order in your RSVP as we may not have additional meals available if you wait until the event. See the RSVP form for prices, which include all taxes and tips. Remember, prices go up after February 28th!

If you like, you can also order meals from the resort's restaurant menu, as well. However, note that due to the impact of our event on this small resort, there may be long waits in the restaurant, particularly at breakfast, which could have you missing your start time. Nonetheless, this is an option for participants.

Lastly, feel free to enjoy your own camp cooking! At previous Rover Rendezvous events participants generally prepared their own meals, except for the traditional Saturday night BBQ. Cook up your own bacon and eggs for breakfast, or some hearty franks and beans for dinner!

Those opting to stay in Lone Pine or Stovepipe Wells Village can also obtain their meals there.

Meeting Place & Driving Directions

Panamint Springs is located on Highway 190 approximately 50 miles east of Lone Pine. You can also reach the resort via Trona to the south, which is the recommended route if you will be driving an RV or towing a trailer.

You should arrive with as full a gas tank as possible, which can be topped off reasonably in either Trona, Olancha or Lone Pine. To enjoy more savings on fuel cost, feel free to bring your own spare gas tanks. Although all grades of gasoline are sold at Panamint Springs, their remote location yields prices significantly higher than fuel stations in towns. Nonetheless, if it is necessary, fuel is available at the resort.
