BLM Jawbone Canyon Visitors Center, Cantil, CA
9:30 am Orientation; departing 9:45 am
Located on west side of Hwy 14, approximately 20 miles north of Mojave
(For
those taking 395 north, consider gasing up at Kramer Jct, then continue on to
Randsburg, connecting to Red Rock-Randsburg Road. Jawbone Visitors Center is
about 2 miles south of intersection with Hwy 14.)
The "Follow-the-Leader" day trip is designed to show SCLR members how easy it is to lead a trip, because everyone takes turns actually leading the group! Every so often, the leader will pull to the side and rejoin the group at the rear, leaving the next in line as the new leader. The new leader is free to go right, left, straight ahead, or even back the way we came, as they are the leader! Area veteran Randy Banis (#167) will guide the "leaders" and help them avoid unintended dead-ends or trouble spots.
The El Paso Mountains are relatively local and make fine one-day destinations, and they are packed with hundreds of miles of trails in a small area. Those wishing to attend both Saturday and Sunday day-trips can find ample campsites & motel rooms close-by for a Saturday night stay.
